The End of the big music companies?

The begening of the end perhaps? Or will they sign up like the Artic Monkeys did?

The London Times reports that Kate Walsh has gone to the top of the iTunes chart with an album recorded and released in her producers bedroom. No need for a record company at all - just a distribution channel like iTunes.

With no manufacturing costs (it's a download) good music and word of mouth it all that is needed.

I think they key change that is needed is for the artists to retain the copyright and the industry to be publishers rather than the copyright holders.
