Two US parents, Elisa Kelly and George Robinson are going to jail for organising a responsible party for their son Ryan. Their crime appears to be one of making sure their childred drank responsibly and "contributing to the delinquency of minors."
They organised a party at their home for, I think, their son's 16th birthday. The deal was that the parents would allow the party if all the kids handed in their car keys and slept over so they could drive home sober in the morning.
Aparently the judge, County Judge Dwight Johnson (now retured) wanted to make an example of the parents following the death of a teenage girl in an unrelated drink-driving accident a month earlier. So, the judge jails parents whose aim was specifically to stop a bunch of teenage kids from going somewhere else, getting drunk and driving home! That's some of the worst logic ever!
Plus, the teenage kid is now to be deprived of his parents and role models for the next three years while he does some of the most important emotional development a teenager does.
A very bad decision by the judge IMHO.
