One of the current hot topics is food miles. That is how far food travels and in particular the CO2 emissions resulting from the transportation of food.
I think we need to look at the bigger picture and examine how much impact growing and/or harvesting food has on the while environment. The food's foot print or foodprint.
It's important to look at the bigger picture when one find out that flowers flown from Africa have a lower carbon footprint than flowers grown in Dutch hot houses even though they have far more flower miles. OK, so we don't normally eat flowers but the same is probably true of vegetables flown over from Africa when compared to those grown in hot houses.
