I think Universal Grammar is wrong

I don't think that language grammar comes about because of something innate to the human brain.

I think it arises out of the fact that the purpose of language is for communication and there are fundamental things one might wish to communicate. These communications include :
  • there are things;
  • things have properties;
  • things do stuff;
  • stuff happens to things.

  • Lion!
  • Hungry Lion!
  • Hungry Lion attacks!
  • We get eaten (or not)!

I think there would have been an evolutionarily selective pressure to select those who could communicate and understand communication. This will have selected those better able to understand communication's basic needs and types of message.

The grammar comes from the needs of communication which leads to the selection of brains that are good at grammar.
