Like most things in life we have to find a balance between the extreams.
When it comes to 'free range children' I think that many parents are being over protective. As children grow and develop parents have to judge what is and is not safe for their children.
Unfortunately people seem very bad at handling low risk but bad outcome dangers. For example ,while we think we hear about children being kidnapped by strangers every day how often does this actually happen?
Is it better to be totally safe and have no experience or to run a small risk and have lots of experience?
