Fake choice

A couple of weeks ago the fan on the old double oven we bought on Ebay died. It was cheap and old so we were not too upset.

My wife and I decided it was time to get a new double oven and so just over a week ago went into Kingston (London) to buy a new oven.

We started off in John Lewis. There we saw 5 different makes of double oven. From memory these were

  • John Lewis' own brand
  • Bosch
  • Siemens
  • NEF
  • Electrolux
While the ovens had various different functions listed there was only two sets of cavity size. Again from memory, something like 30/58 and 30/59. The John Lewis and Electrolux were one combination and the Boech, Siemens and NEF were the other.

We did a little exploration and it quickly became obvious that the John Lews and Electrolux were basically the same oven with different knobs (literally) and that the Bosch/Siemens/NEF trio wer the same too. So, instead of there being a choice of 5 brands, there was only really a choice of two.
