This article in the Guardian talks about a German scientist's rant about Christmas Cards with unreal snow flakes on them. In particular, the use of 4 and 8 pointed snowflakes. In nature all snow flages are six pointed due to the properties of water crystals.
Even the Nature web site has an eight pointed snowflake. On the 24th of December I copied the above image from the Nature website. Even my 6 year old son spotted that the snow flake is wrong. There are 6 visable points and 2 partly obscured by the word 'Enjoy'.
What does Nature know that we don't?
