Having spent my formative years growing up on an arable farm I spent quite a lot of time killing animals to protect the crops. Rabbits, pigeons and a few geese were my main targets. Either we controlled their numbers or they ate all of our crops. The time following planting was particularity important because it only takes one bite or peck to kill a sprouting seed.
As it's not good to waste the meat I suggest rabbit and pigeon pie and the occasional roast goose.
