Super Injunctions Contaminate Everyone

Bruce Schnier's recent article Status Report: "The Dishonest Minority" refered to in his May 15, 2011 Crypto-Gram got me thinking about super injunctions. I soon came to the conclusion that they contaminate everyone.

Reputation, both on and off line, is a very important thing and, for the most part, we all want to have a good reputation. Reputation systems have been key to the success of eBay and Amazon stores. We happily send our money off to random people because they have good reputations as measured by eBay and Amazon.

The problem with super injunctions is that they interfere with public reputations. Anyone could be hiding something unpleasant behind a super injunction effectively making unpleasant or unacceptable behaviour.

In a world where some people can fake a good reputation who can you trust?
