Here's interesting article about ICANN looking to allow brand based top level domains.
It got me wondering about how important or not the whole Domain Name Structure really is these days. With the rise of search engines and Facebook company pages do people really use DNS to find things?
I remember when given 'company name' one would point ones browser at www.companyname.com or www.companyname.co.uk and see if one got something. These days one simply types company name into a search engine or tries www.facebook.com/companyname.
DNS is nice but I don't think domain names are anything like as important as they used to be.
