If you're trying to lose weight you can't go on a diet. You have to change your diet, permanently.
If you are overweight or have gained weight on your current diet/lifestyle then if you keep that diet/lifestyle or go back to it after a period of being 'on a diet' then you'll gain weight.
You simply have to find a new, permanent diet with which you can maintain your desired weight. It won't be a fashionable or trendy diet and will probably involve eating a little less than you currently do.
For us, we've just cut back on the high GI carbs a bit.
