Looks like sugar is this years diet bogey man.

There are lots of articles in the press about how sugar is bad for you and I think it's become the new diet bogey man.

I'm happy with that but we do need to remember the whole high GI thing. Sugar is very high GI it's the high GI nature that's the problem. Sugar is added to a lot of processed and low fat food - take the fat out and replace it with sugar.

Fruit juice has also come in for a knocking. A glass of, say, orange juice contains 3 or 4 oranges worth of juice but without all the 'bits'. Would you eat 4 oranges for breakfast? The processing of oranges to make juice also increases the GI of the juice compared to the oranges because the processing ruptures all the cells to let the sugars out.

Sure, have some fruit juice but remember it is a processed food.
