Why XP will become less secure

XP PCs won't stop working tomorrow morning (9th Apr 2014) but they won't get any security bugs fixed.

As Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 have quite a lot of common code it's quite possible that in the future a patch that's released for Vista, 7 and 8 will fix a bug that's also present in XP. However, from the 9th XP won't receive the fix.

The fix released for Vista, 7 and 8 will be downloaded and analysed by hackers to see if it can be exploited.

It's ironic that the release of security fixes gives hackers the information they need to exploit the bug the fix fixes. This makes unfixed machines more vulnerable. That's why XP will become more vulnerable over time.
