This BBC article says that 400,000 1.6L cars will get their fuel injectors altered and a software fix while the 2L cars will only need a software fix.
Does that mean they're not going to fit SCR exhaust scrubbers but instead use a richer fuel mix to reduce the amount of oxygen and thus the amount of NOx produced? This wikipedia article implies that this would produce more soot and unburnt fuel emissions. It would also reduce fuel efficiency.
