Interesting article in the Times about teaching children.
Some children are cleverer that others and abilities differ. This much is fact.
As to what the reasons why some children are cleverer and abilities differer are is a very hot potato(e).
There's this quote in the article
"For generations, it has been common ground across all parties that ability has nothing to do with social background, and that improving standards is simply a question of widening access to education."
The issue of social background being that children of better off parents tend to do better in the education system. Now, why are the parents better off? Is it simply because their parents were, in turn, better off, or perhaps are the parents better able to advance themselves in life that other people?
